Torn from his familial herd when he was just two years old, since 1980, Thailand has spent more than four decades confined at the Houston Zoo, where he has been used for breeding, put on public display, and subjected to behavioral control. Thailand is currently confined with other elephants, including his offspring, who all suffer from their facility’s lack of sufficient space and from being unable to engage in their natural behaviors.

LouLou (formerly known as Kimba Lou) is an approximately 41 year old African elephant. She was captured from an unknown location in Kenya and imported to the US in 1984 via an exotic animal dealer in Lampasas, Texas called J.C. Schulz, Inc. (the Schulz family runs the still-operational Kifaru Exotic Animal Auction in Texas). The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens purchased Lou Lou in 1984. In 2006, when she was 24 years old, she was transferred to the Lee Richardson Zoo in Garden City, Kansas as part of an Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) breeding arrangement. In 2015, she was transferred to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo along with Missy.

Lucky

46 Years old | Colorado

Lucky is an approximately 43 year old African elephant. She was born in Kruger National Park in South Africa and captured and imported to the US in 1981 when she was one. Along with Kimba, she began her imprisonment in the US at the International Animal Exchange. That same year, Lucky and Kimba were transferred to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. She receives injections for arthritis.

He was transferred to Fresno in 2022 for use in a captive breeding program. Mabu is now confined with 4 other elephants, who all suffer from their facility’s lack of sufficient space and from being unable to engage in their natural behaviors.

Mac is an African elephant currently held at the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler, TX. He was born in captivity 13 years ago. Mac is confined with 2 other elephants, who all suffer from their facility’s lack of sufficient space and from being unable to engage in their natural behaviors.
